yann keller. predominantly a bass player and experimentalist in many fields. after studying
jazz contrabass, an important step to yann’s progression was the construction of own
instruments like the steelbass, which is derived from the ground spear of a lightning rod and
manifests the break with traditional jazz. this was also the result of experiences in sculptural work where the term sculpture is shifting between the media. it is an object with the function of a stringbass. from another point of view: a material improvisation - a fragment of improvised music
is a sculpture in time.
the improvisation is related to varying musical genres i.e. noise, electronic
music, punk, folk, hardcore, and as the combining attitude, freejazz. it is this idea which is
transformed out of its own time with a new sound into the here and now.
with the musical development 1999 a deeper research in self definition came up.
losen up the boundaries of one or the other gender. those are inventions of the society to preserve its patriarchal structures. being transidentic can mean leaving one side but not necessarily only choosing the other side. living between the sides. there are many varying possibility between the endpoints man and woman on this scale. the musical improvisation reflects all this.
